A shocking video was posted by OnScene.tv several weeks ago showing the dangers of stranded vehicles on roadways. The video shows a multi-vehicle crash on a Southern California freeway. Several drivers can be seen slamming head-on into a stranded car, while another smashed into the freeway wall after swerving to avoid the other crashed cars. A total of six vehicles were involved in the wreck, with the driver of the initial vehicle fleeing the scene on foot.

The Importance of Safe Driving

Two people were reported hospitalized, but no further information was given about the extent of the injuries. While on the scene, the photojournalist who captured the incident attempted to warn oncoming motorists by aiming a directional spotlight at the crashed vehicles. However, this has led to some speculation on whether or not these actions helped or hurt the situation.

When traveling at a high rate of speed on a highway, especially at night, it is very difficult to react to debris or stalled cars in time, making these situations extremely dangerous, As a result, the video is an important reminder to always stay vigilant while driving, especially on busy highways.

Tips for Safe Driving

If you notice your vehicle is not operating properly, it is very important to pull over to the safest location possible. Do not attempt to continue driving a distressed car. Doing so will only increase your chances of becoming stuck on the road. Once your vehicle is parked safely, make sure to follow these helpful tips:

  • Turn on your emergency/hazard lights.
  • Call authorities and/or roadside assistance as soon as possible and try to give them an exact location.
  • Do not attempt any repairs on the side of the road.
  • If it’s safe to do so, stay inside your vehicle while waiting for assistance and keep your doors locked.

Conclusion
